PREM CLUBS CIRCLE JELAVIC

Glasgow Rangers are finding it increasingly difficult to hold on to their star forward Nikica Jelavic with several English Premier League clubs – including the big clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool – interested in acquiring his services.

Rated at £ 4 million, the hit man from Croatia could prove to be quite a bargain for the two English football heavyweights as well as the likes of Queens Park Rangers and also Aston Villa who are also monitoring his situation at Rangers.

RANGERS STILL IN IT

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said that Rangers should not be disregarded after the 1-0 defeat that helped Celtic move up to the top of the table.

Rangers made a fantastic start to the season and enjoyed a 15 point advantage over Celtic at one point. However, Celtic have been able to close the gap partially through the poor form of Rangers in the last few weeks and also partly because of their excellent form.

Scotland should be proud of Old Firm games

Scotland should be proud, not ashamed, of Old Firm clashes, according to Rangers chief operating officer Ali Russell.

Games between Rangers and Celtic have been steeped in controversy lately and the Scottish Cup replay which took place in March resulted in a government summit on the matter.

That game saw three players sent off and a touchline argument between the two management teams and the ultimate result of the ill-tempered game was the creation of an action group to look at what impact the Old Firm clashes have on wider social problems in Scotland.

RANGERS SUFFER KILLIE BLOW

Rangers could not extend their lead at the top of the table as they crashed to a defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock. The 1-0 defeat infused some new life into the title challenge, which would have melted away had it not been for this defeat.

NAISMITH RULED OUT

Rangers have been dealt a hammer-blow to their title campaign with the news that defender Steven Naismith will be out for the rest of the season.

Fans thought it was serious on Saturday afternoon when Naismith was stretchered off the park after an innoculous looking challeneg on Aberdeen’s Robert Milsom, and have had their worst fears confirmed. Naismith has a cruciate injury.

“This is devastating news for Steven and our thoughts are with him,” manager Ally McCoist told the club’s website.

Rangers have said that they are the victims of UEFA’s campaign after being hit with new disciplinary charges in justeight days.

The club last night confirmed the governing body had opened a case against them over alleged sectarian chanting among their fans at the Europa League game against PSV Eindhoven on March 17. RANGERS SIGN HEALY

Rangers have signed David Healy on loan till the end of the season. He is not the name that Rangers fans would have been hoping for. Nor, indeed, is he the man that Walter Smith had anywhere near the top of his wish-list, but he is as good as they are going to get considering their powder-puff clout in the transfer
