RANGERS BEAT KILMARNOCK

Rangers defeated Kilmarnock in a very thrilling encounter at the Ibrox. Manager Walter Smith had rebuked those who had lambasted his team in the wake of the 2-0 SPL defeat to Celtic over a week ago, with 40-year-old skipper David Weir having come in for some fierce criticism.

Former Rangers striker Derek Johnstone had made his feelings known following the derby loss and he was in a VIP seat at Ibrox to witness first hand Weir helping to shut out 15-goal Killie striker Conor Sammon.

RANGERS LOOKING FOR BOOST

Celtic and Rangers are looking to get some Old Firm boost in a bid to win the title. Celtic are at home for the fifth successive game as they host Motherwell on Wednesday while rivals Rangers face their third straight away match when they take on St Johnstone.

Both sides racked up wins on Sunday as Celtic remained two points behind Walter Smith’s league leaders.

Neil Lennon’s men left it late in their match against St Johnstone, needing goals from Cha Du Ri and Ki Sung-Yueng in stoppage time to claim all three points.

MOTHERWELL COMPLETE GOW SIGNING

Motherwell have completed the signing of former Rangers striker Alan Gow on free transfer. The former Rangers and Falkirk striker, who was released by Plymouth Argyle in the summer, has joined on an initial six-month contract.

Motherwell boss Craig Brown is delighted to have captured the forward and is pleased to have beaten a number of clubs to his signature.

He told the Evening Times: “We are delighted that Alan Gow will be joining us today after he completes his medical and a few other details.

RANGERS MAKE A TRANSFER COUP

Rangers have agreed to sell Danny Wilson for a fee which can go upto £5 million. The 18-year-old central defender, voted the SFA’s young player of the year last season, was pulled out of the Rangers squad that departed for a pre-season tour of Australia today to undergo a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground.

RANGERS REJECT LIVERPOOL BID

Rangers manager Walter Smith has told Liverpool to increase their offer for defender Danny Wilson if they are to win the race for his signature.

A second bid of £2million was rejected by the SPL champions, with the 18-year-old refusing to extend his stay at Ibrox with just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Liverpool had remained unchallenged in their pursuit of Wilson but Tottenham Hotspur, who trumped them to the final Champions League place last season, have now entered the fray and are expected to prompt a bidding war with their Premier League rivals.

Manager Walter Smith expects more tough fixtures for Rangers after they edged closer to the Scottish Premier League title with a 0-0 draw at Dundee United.

“When you get to the business end it’s difficult,” Smith told BBC Scotland. “Any team that comes to Tanandice is going to get an extremely tough game.

“People think that if you’re going for a championship, you will stroll to it but in Scotland you don’t do that.

“We know that we will have to work hard to earn our championship.”

Boyd Blamed for Poor Run
