Mark Warburton has welcomed the arrival of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to the Scottish league.

Rodgers has just taken over at Celtic, who were left searching for a new manager after announcing the exit of Ronny Deila. The Norwegian may have won several domestic competitions with Celtic, but his achievements have come at a time when there were no Rangers in the top division to give Celtic real competition. Further, Celtic also performed poorly in the European competitions and this will be the main target for Rodgers.

Even though Rangers are just making their way back up the top regions of the Scottish football, they are expected to be a formidable opposition nonetheless.Warburton knows about Rodgers from his time at Watford. Back then, Rodgers was just starting to make his name in management and Warburton was one of the coaches. Since then, the Northern Ireland manager has achieved relative success in the game and this led to his appointment at Liverpool – one of the biggest clubs in England. However, he failed to bring a major trophy to Anfield despite spending three years at the club. After having just left the job, Rodgers was linked with a return to Swansea but he has now chosen the big task of keeping Celtic as the top guns.

“I know Brendan, I worked with him at Watford. I was academy manager and he was manager. He’s very experienced, well organised, a good motivator, a good man-manager. He’s a manager of the highest quality. He’s worked in the Premier League and came within a slip of winning it, so there’s no doubting Brendan’s qualities.I like him very much as an individual, so if he is the man, he would be a great choice. There’s no doubt Celtic will pose a real challenge next year,” said Warburton.
