Rangers are the new Scottish Premiership champions after they stopped the dominance of Celtic on the domestic front to win a first league title in a decade. Celtic were determined to win a tenth successive league title in the Scottish Premiership but Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and his players had other ideas. Rangers have been impressive in the league and they were rewarded with the league title earlier today after Celtic could only play a goalless draw. Celtic had won the last nine league titles and they could have prolonged Rangers’ wait for a first league title in a decade if they were able to beat hosts Dundee United. In the end, Celtic failed to secure the away win needed thereby handing. Rangers the much anticipated league title.

Celtic have dominated Scottish Premiership football in the last nine years but Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and his players have been able to wrestle the league title back for Rangers. Celtic were so dominant on the domestic scene in Scottish football to the extent that they won all the nine titles available over the last three seasons. Rangers led Celtic by 18 points on the Scottish Premiership table ahead of this weekend and they were able to move 21 points clear with the routine home win over St. Mirren on Saturday. Two goals in two first half minutes set Rangers on their way to victory before an early goal in second half wrapped up the straightforward win for the newly crowned Scottish Premiership champions. Ryan Kent was the recipient of the first goal for Rangers, while Alfredos Morelos added a second goal for his team. IanisHagi was the scorer of the third Rangers goal. Rangers sealed league title number 55 after Celtic recorded a goalless draw in their away game at Dundee United.

For Rangers, all attention will now shift to the Europa League with the round of 16 meeting with Slavia Prague of Czech Republic on the horizon. Sparta Prague play hosts to Rangers in the first leg on Thursday night before the return leg in Scotland next week Thursday.
