RANGERS EYEING WIGAN ACE

Steven Gerrard stint at Rangers has been a good as the Scottish giants are set to finish in the top 2 for the first time in over 3 years.  The Liverpool legend has continued to be linked with a number of signings as the Ibrox outfit seek to make a legitimate challenge on rivals Celtic next season.

Latest reports from England reveals that Gerrard has identified Wigan Athletic’s midfielder Nick Powell as a major transfer target ahead of next season.  Powell was highly rated during his time at Old Trafford during his teenage years but failed to make the grade under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 25 years made a move to Wigan more than five seasons and he has developed into one of the best players at the Championship side. It is understood that the player who is valued at around £5 million but could be available for free at the end of the season. Powell’s current contract ends in June and the former Manchester United prodigy is yet to agree on a new deal with the Latics.

However, Rangers are expected to face a stiff battle for his signature as other Championship clubs including Norwich City and Leeds United are interested in the midfielder. Rangers have been playing without a classic number 10 this season as Gerrard has gone for a physical midfield three.

Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria was the last traditional 10 in the club but the youngster has returned to his parent club after failing to adapt to the physicality of the league. it is understood that Rangers director of football Mark Allen has begun to chase potential replacements in that position.

One signing that has been secured is that of Jordan Jones as the talented player is set to join Rangers in the summer after agreeing on a move in January.
