Rangers have been dealt a hammer-blow to their title campaign with the news that defender Steven Naismith will be out for the rest of the season.

Fans thought it was serious on Saturday afternoon when Naismith was stretchered off the park after an innoculous looking challeneg on Aberdeen’s Robert Milsom, and have had their worst fears confirmed. Naismith has a cruciate injury.

“This is devastating news for Steven and our thoughts are with him,” manager Ally McCoist told the club’s website.

“He was in the form of his life and it is a huge blow for him and the club that he is out for the rest of the season.

“He will get the best possible treatment in the weeks and months ahead and everyone at Rangers Football club will support him during his rehabilitation period.”
