Brentford have managed to secure the signing of Rangers midfielder Lewis Macleod.

The player has signed a three and half year contract and will be joining the club when the transfer window opens on January 1. The 20-year-old is seen as one of the talented players in the Rangers team and Brentford boss Mark Warburton expressed his delight at being able to secure his signature. The Championship outfit may have suffered three defeats in the last five matches, but they still remain in with a shout to reach the automatic promotion spots.Warburton will see the signing ofMacleod as an important one to strengthen the team.

It is rumoured that Brentford have paid around £ 1 million for the midfielder. He has been in imperious form this season. Even though Rangers have not been able to top the Scottish Championship,Macleod has scored eight goals. This has also seen him get his first call-up for the Scotland national team back in November. Apart from these accolades, he was also named as the young player of the month for November. This confirms the progress that he has made since breaking into the team in the 2012-13 season. Last season, he made 21 appearances and scored five goals.

“I am delighted to have secured such a young talent as Lewis. He has had an outstanding season with Rangers and will be an excellent addition to the playing squad,” said the Brentford boss. “It would be naturally a blow to see him go. He is a talented lad and he’s got the opportunity to move on, which looks like it may now be the case. It’s disappointing to lose him but that is football. You have got to move on. It’s not one player which makes our team. We have a lot of good players in that changing room,” said Rangers manager Kenny McDowall.
